Introduction by the chairman

I would like to welcome you to The Health Care Surveillence Autority web site. The Authority operates for all participants of the Slovak public healthcare system –policyholders, health insurance payers, health care providers and health insurance companies. Its task is to look for the balance among all participants to focus their attention and activities on protection, preservation or restitution of the patients´ health.  This high demanding goal leads us to emphasize prevention. Our endeavour after prevention of all negative events in the system is to find a solution before the patient falls ill. It is a necessity to protect patients from possible tragedies caused by incorrect health care provision.

The Authority supervises the observance of statutes and correct courses of treatment in health care provision. It also controls the execution of the public health insurance, as well as the application of policyholders´ duties and discretions.

Each decision is professionally and humanly very difficult. It can comprise satisfaction of one participant and the discontent of the other one at the same time. Decision making process means looking for the truth for us and it requires a high level of responsibility and independence. The Authority protects those who understand their work as a mission to help people in the first place.

We are interested in cooperating with the entire health care workers society, professional and corporative organizations, health insurance companies, and organizations of state and public administration. Therefore I appreciate each constructive proposal focused on improving the quality of the process leading to protection, retaining or restoring human health.
